The much famed, grand old University College is going through 144th year of its existence in 2010. The Department of Physics has completed a century in its glorious history. In this period the department has produced a number of luminaries who have made significant contribution in various walks of life.
In order to form a society consisting of former students and teachers of the department of Physics, University College, an Adhoc committee was set up under the presidentship of Sri. P. Radhakrishnan, Retd. Deputy Director, VSSC, ISRO. After preliminary discussions, it has been decided to form a society of old students and teachers, past and present. This fraternity was named as “University College Physics Society (UCPS)”. It was also decided to give two types of memberships – ordinary Membership of Rs.100/- per year with Rs.200/- as initial registration fee and a life Membership for Rs. 1000/-. It has been also resolved to present all these recommendations together with a draft bylaw for approval in the General body meeting. For this, it was decided to convene a General Body Meeting at Department of Physics on 30-11-2008 at 2 P.M.The first General body meeting of UCPS was held at Department of Physics, on 30-11-2008 at 2 p.m. The Meeting was chaired by Sri. P. Radhakrishnan, President, Adhoc Committee. The General body meeting unanimously accepted the proposals of the Adhoc Committee. It also adopted the bylaws of UCPS. The meeting also elected office bearers of the UCPS for a period of 2 years. The first office bearers of UCPS were
